The loaded Kimber mag is such a tight fit that I actually see a small deformation of the bullet casing where it is hitting something inside.īut again, the gun works and the bullet doesn’t have to look immaculate under a magnifying glass when you go shooting, so this isn’t enough to take a star off the rating for me, it just explains when you got to ram the clip in though. The Promag clips actually fit better and are cheaper. I will say I wish Kimber would refine how their mags fit in their gun since you really got to smack it in. It is a beautiful gun and now that it works, I can say I am happy I purchased it, although I still have to put more rounds through it in order to feel confident in trusting it with my life. Had these issues not happened, I would have given the gun 5-stars. This took about two months and came back with an excessive amount of gun oil but nothing a wipe down couldn’t fix. Ultimately, I had to send it back to Kimber through Academy where among other things, they polished the feed ramp and checked/cleaned the magazine (which was not the issue but why not) and thankfully it now fires as it should.

I understand these guns need to be broken in, however, the amount of pullback force needed was obscene.Įven the staff at Academy had difficultly racking it (empty of course). This was not my first gun and not my first time shooting a 1911, albeit, this was the first 1911 I ever purchased brand new. Aside from that, the slide was abnormally hard to pull back when the hammer was down to the point it was dangerous by the simple fact the slide could slip out of your hands and the sharp ejection cutout in the slide could filet your finger if it shot forward out of your grip (which it did). It would also occasionally fail to feed the last round or two where the bullet would likewise jam up in the chamber, again, even sometimes when not the mag wasn’t full. This would usually only happen if I loaded all eight rounds (sometimes less) either with the clip it came with or the Promag aftermarket clips I purchased since it only comes with one mag. Technically, it was a failure to feed as the first round wouldn’t chamber unless I smacked the back of the slide forward. Long story short, when the slide was cocked back and I put in the clip, the gun would jam whenever I would push down the slide release to chamber a round, or if I attempt rack the slide back with the loaded clip already in.

But, as is my luck, something was defective with the one I bought and had to send it to Kimber for servicing after the first time I took it to the range. I’ve always wanted a Kimber after a friend let me shot his two-tone Kimber 1911. I bought this gun earlier this year around January or February after drooling over it for a minute.
